Harish Rao Opposes Proposal to Merge Siddipet with Sangareddy

The proposal to reorganise districts has triggered political tension in Telangana, with former minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao strongly opposing any move to abolish Siddipet district . He alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is conspiring to merge Siddipet back into Sangareddy district under the pretext of reducing the number of districts.

Addressing a public meeting in Siddipet on Friday, Harish Rao warned that the people would not remain silent if the district’s existence is threatened. “If Siddipet district is abolished, another mass movement is inevitable,” he said.

Earlier in the day, BJP Siddipet town president Patri Srinivas and senior leader Hanumanth Rao , along with their supporters, joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) . Harish Rao formally welcomed them into the party by draping pink scarves.

Speaking at the gathering, Harish Rao launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, declaring a political fight against the Chief Minister. He recalled the difficult past of Siddipet, when drinking water scarcity was severe and residents struggled daily for basic needs. “People once carried water on bicycles, drainage was poor, and hygiene conditions were alarming,” he said.

He contrasted this with the present situation, stating that Siddipet has now emerged as a model town , with improved drinking water supply, underground drainage, street lighting, and an organised garbage collection system.

Harish Rao also highlighted major progress in the education and healthcare sectors. He said institutions such as a medical college , polytechnic , pharmacy , nursing , and women’s degree colleges have transformed Siddipet into an educational hub. He added that the district has become an inspiration for others in medical services, education, and tourism, with Komati Cheruvu developing into a popular tourist destination.

Stating that Siddipet district was the result of a 30–40 year long dream , fulfilled during KCR’s tenure, Harish Rao accused the current government of attempting to undo that achievement. He warned that scrapping the district would severely impact institutions such as the collectorate, medical college, district hospital, SC offices, and irrigation departments, ultimately slowing down development.

“No matter how many conspiracies are hatched, we will protect the identity of Siddipet,” he asserted.

The BRS leader also criticised the Congress government over delays in welfare schemes. He said pensions have not been released for over 25 months, and women are yet to receive promised financial assistance and gold. Schemes such as Rythu Bandhu , Bathukamma kits , and fertiliser supply have suffered, he alleged, adding that the Chief Minister has failed to address these issues.

Referring to the upcoming municipal elections, Harish Rao appealed to voters to ensure the victory of BRS candidates. “If our councillors and chairpersons win, development will continue,” he said. Calling Siddipet his family, he added that he participates in every festival and stands with people in all circumstances.

Harish Rao concluded by stating that he would continue to fight politically until KCR returns as Chief Minister and Telangana regains stability, making it clear that there would be no compromise on Siddipet’s future.
