Harish Rao Accuses Congress of Neglecting Welfare, Says Mission Mode Is Missing
Senior BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, alleging that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's administration is functioning in “ commission mode rather than mission mode ” and has failed to deliver on its promises to various sections of society.
Speaking at a BRS membership enrollment drive and voter list revision awareness meeting in Husnabad of Siddipet district, Harish Rao urged party workers to remain vigilant during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and ensure that every eligible voter’s name is protected.
The former minister also paid tribute to Telangana activist Captain Lakshmikantha Rao for his commitment to the statehood movement. He credited former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) with transforming Husnabad into a revenue division and spearheading projects such as the Gouravelli Reservoir and the development of the Gandi Mahasamudram tank .
Turning his focus to the Congress government, Harish Rao alleged that people had been misled by what he described as “false promises” made during the Assembly elections. He claimed that while the BRS fought and sacrificed for Telangana, the current government had betrayed public trust.
Highlighting welfare allocations, he alleged that despite earmarking ₹2,730 crore under the ST Sub-Plan , only a small portion had been spent on salaries and electricity bills, while tribal communities continued to remain underrepresented in the Cabinet. He further claimed that funds allocated to the SC Corporation and BC Corporation had not translated into meaningful benefits for Dalits and backward classes.
Harish Rao accused the government of abandoning welfare initiatives launched during the BRS regime, including sheep distribution for Yadava communities and free fish seed distribution programs. He also alleged that orders for Bathukamma sarees and school uniforms had been diverted to large corporate firms outside the state, adversely affecting Telangana’s handloom workers.
The BRS leader further charged that payments under Rythu Bharosa had been delayed and that crop insurance support remained stalled. He alleged that procurement policies and bonus payments for paddy farmers were unfair and inadequate.
In one of his sharpest remarks, Harish Rao claimed that the government was prioritizing contractor interests over public welfare and accused it of spending heavily on official infrastructure while citing a lack of funds for welfare schemes. He also criticized the proposed Musi River rejuvenation project , alleging that it was being driven by commissions rather than public interest.
Referring to a recent incident involving a minor girl in Khammam, Harish Rao questioned the government's response and accused ministers of remaining silent on issues concerning public safety. He concluded by warning that growing public dissatisfaction could lead to a strong political backlash against the Congress in the future.
