Harimau Shakti 2025: Indian and Malaysian Armies Train Together in Rajasthan
The Indian Army and the Malaysian Army are currently engaged in the fifth edition of the joint military exercise Harimau Shakti 2025 , being held at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan from December 5 to 18.
The bilateral exercise aims to enhance interoperability, operational preparedness and mutual understanding between the two forces, with a focus on sub-conventional operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate. It is designed to strengthen joint responses to counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency scenarios in contemporary operational environments.
According to the Indian Army, troops from both sides are undertaking a wide range of joint training activities, including Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR) drills, combat reflex shooting, and counter-IED familiarisation through structured briefings and visits to specialised training facilities. These modules are intended to improve tactical skills and situational awareness during real-world operations.
A key component of the exercise involves Counter-Insurgency and Counter-Terrorism (CI/CT) training. Mixed teams from both armies have been conducting joint patrolling rehearsals following detailed lectures and demonstrations on patrolling techniques. These drills are aimed at refining coordination, enhancing responsiveness and improving mission planning under simulated operational conditions.
The exercise also features ambush theory sessions and practical demonstrations to strengthen small-team offensive capabilities. A structured Command Post Exercise (CPX) is being conducted to reinforce tactical planning, decision-making and battlefield management skills. Heliborne operations, including slithering and low-hover jumps from MI-17 helicopters, have added realism to the training, particularly for operations in dense and restrictive terrain.
In addition, a joint display of weapons and equipment is showcasing company and battalion-level special weapons, including next-generation equipment. Activities promoting physical fitness and camaraderie, such as yoga sessions and friendly sports events, have also been incorporated into the exercise curriculum.
With progressive modules covering ambush manoeuvres, live firing practices, heliborne insertions and seamless joint patrolling, Exercise Harimau Shakti 2025 continues to elevate combined combat readiness and adaptability to modern warfare challenges. The exercise stands as a testament to the growing defence cooperation, professional bonds and mutual trust between India and Malaysia.
