Hardik Pandya Set To Join Punjab Kings In Blockbuster Arshdeep Singh Trade
Mumbai Indians (MI) are reportedly close to trading all-rounder Hardik Pandya to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in exchange for left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh ahead of the IPL 2027 season, according to an ESPNcricinfo report.
The proposed deal is currently being finalised, with both franchises having submitted expressions of interest to the Indian Premier League (IPL). The next step is to obtain written consent from both players, which is expected within 24 hours, followed by final negotiations and approval from the IPL.
According to the report, Hardik and Mumbai Indians held several discussions since the latter part of IPL 2026, following which the all-rounder expressed his desire to leave the franchise. MI subsequently explored potential trade options with almost all teams except Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The proposed move would help Mumbai strengthen their pace attack, with Arshdeep potentially joining Jasprit Bumrah in the bowling department. MI finished ninth in IPL 2026 and are keen to improve their fast-bowling resources. Their overseas pacer Trent Boult, who was acquired for Rs 12.5 crore at the 2025 mega auction, struggled last season and played only five matches. Although his release remains an option, Arshdeep's arrival would provide an experienced Indian left-arm bowling option.
Arshdeep has represented Punjab Kings since making his IPL debut in 2019. He has claimed 111 wickets in 96 matches at an economy rate of 9.18. The proposed transfer would mark his first move to another IPL franchise.
For Hardik, this would be his second franchise trade in three years. Mumbai brought him back from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024 in an all-cash deal and appointed him captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. However, his three-year leadership stint produced mixed results. In 39 matches as MI captain, Hardik recorded 15 victories and 24 defeats. In contrast, he registered 22 wins and nine losses in 31 matches as Gujarat Titans captain.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have revamped their coaching setup for IPL 2027, appointing Kieron Pollard as head coach, Robin Uthappa as batting coach, Mitchell McClenaghan as bowling coach and T Dilip as fielding coach.
If finalised, the trade could significantly reshape both teams, with Punjab gaining Hardik's all-round abilities and Mumbai strengthening their pace attack. However, the deal is yet to receive player consent and official IPL approval.
