What began as one of the quietest theatrical releases of the year has turned into one of 2026’s biggest box-office stories. Vishal Chaturvedi’s Hanuman Ansh, made on a reported budget of around ₹2 crore, has crossed the ₹400 crore mark worldwide, completing a remarkable turnaround after an extremely modest opening.

The film, which stars Shobhinaw Satyaa as spiritual figure Neem Karoli Baba, opened on August 7 to limited theatrical interest. It earned only around ₹10 lakh on its opening day and had collected barely ₹1.50 crore during its first two weeks. At that stage, the film appeared to be heading for a short run.

The turning point came through word of mouth. Audiences gradually began discovering the devotional drama, prompting exhibitors to add more shows and screens. The film’s collections surged sharply from its third week, transforming a slow starter into a sustained theatrical phenomenon. Since its fourth week, it has reportedly collected more than ₹60 crore net in India every week.

The latest weekend extended that extraordinary run. Hanuman Ansh earned ₹18.95 crore net during its eighth weekend, including a striking ₹9 crore on Sunday alone. After 52 days, its India net collection stood at about ₹307 crore, while its India gross was around ₹362 crore. Its worldwide gross has crossed ₹400 crore, with the latest reported figure at approximately ₹401.20 crore.

The numbers are particularly striking because the film's worldwide haul is now more than 200 times its reported production budget. It has also entered the list of the highest-grossing Indian films, moving past several established titles during its eighth-weekend run.

The film's momentum has also received support in Uttarakhand, where the state government announced tax-free status for Hanuman Ansh. The decision came after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami watched the film and highlighted its connection with Neem Karoli Baba and the state's spiritual heritage.

For a film that started with just a handful of screens and struggled to attract audiences in its opening weeks, Hanuman Ansh has delivered a striking lesson in theatrical longevity: sometimes, a film does not need a huge opening to become a major hit. In this case, audience discovery and sustained word of mouth completely changed its box-office destiny.
