Hanumakonda Collector Pushes Model Development of Double-Bedroom Colonies

District Collector P. Sneha Shabarish has stressed that double-bedroom housing colonies must provide beneficiaries with safe, hygienic, and dignified living conditions, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving quality of life for economically weaker sections. As part of this effort, she conducted a surprise inspection of the double-bedroom housing complexes at New Shayampet and Ambedkar Nagar .

During her visit, the Collector toured the colonies and assessed key civic infrastructure, including the drainage system, drinking water supply, sanitation arrangements, street lighting, and internal roads . She interacted directly with residents to understand everyday challenges and gathered feedback on sanitation maintenance and water availability.

Pointing out that poorly functioning drainage systems can cause serious inconvenience and health risks, she directed officials from the Housing, Roads & Buildings, and Municipal departments to undertake immediate repairs and preventive maintenance . She also instructed authorities to accelerate CC road construction and repair works , ensuring all pending works are completed before the monsoon season to prevent water stagnation and damage.

Officials were further ordered to promptly address complaints related to drinking water access, sanitation, and wastewater disposal , and to improve coordination between departments for effective service delivery. The Collector emphasized that sustained maintenance and responsive civic services are essential for long-term livability.

The initiative aligns with Telangana’s flagship double-bedroom housing programme, which aims to provide free, dignified housing to the poor while eliminating substandard living conditions. Beyond housing, the administration is focusing on strengthening infrastructure and sanitation systems to transform these colonies into model residential communities .

Collector Shabarish reiterated that comprehensive civic amenities, regular upkeep, and community cooperation will be key to ensuring that double-bedroom housing colonies evolve into clean, well-planned, and sustainable neighbourhoods.
