Handwritten Bomb Threat Note Found at Kolkata Airport, No Suspicious Object Detected
A handwritten note warning of a bomb at a boarding gate was found in a women's toilet at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here on Friday morning, prompting security personnel to launch an extensive search of the premises, officials said.
The note, written on a piece of tissue paper, warned of a bomb at boarding gate number 30, an airport official said. A member of the airport's cleaning staff discovered the note during the morning and immediately alerted the authorities, following which security personnel initiated precautionary measures.
"The search is still underway, and no suspicious object has been found so far. Also, there was no disruption to flight operations," an official told PTI.
Following the discovery, the area around boarding gate 30 was cleared to facilitate security checks. Personnel began searching the vicinity for any suspicious object or material that could pose a threat to passengers and airport staff.
Thorough checks were also being carried out across the airport as part of the security response, the official said. The incident triggered heightened security measures at the airport, although flight operations continued without disruption, according to officials. The authorities had not found any suspicious object at the time of reporting, and the search operation remained underway.
The note's discovery raised security concerns at the busy airport, where officials moved swiftly to check the area mentioned in the warning and extend searches to other parts of the premises.
No further details were immediately available regarding the origin of the note or the person who may have left it in the toilet. Officials did not report any arrests in connection with the incident. Further details are awaited as security personnel continue their checks.
The airport authorities are yet to provide additional information on the outcome of the search or whether the threat was assessed to be credible. The situation remained under monitoring, with no impact on flight operations reported so far.
