A consumer forum in Faridabad has directed food major Haldiram's Marketing Private Limited to pay over ₹20,000 in compensation after it was found guilty of selling expired sweets and engaging in unfair trade practices.

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission held that the company was responsible for deficiency in service following a complaint by a local resident who purchased sweets from a Sector 16 outlet.

The complainant alleged that the sweets carried a manufacturing date of December 12, 2025, and an expiry date of December 19, 2025 , but were sold on December 21, 2025, after expiry. He also claimed that staff behaviour was uncooperative when he raised concerns.

During the hearing, the complainant submitted photographs, videos, and packaging as evidence. The company argued that it maintains strict quality control systems, but the commission found the defence insufficient in light of the material evidence.

The forum concluded that expired sweets were sold and ordered the company to pay ₹15,000 as penalty, ₹3,300 as compensation for mental harassment, and ₹2,200 towards legal costs, to be paid within 30 days.

The ruling is being seen as a reminder of consumer rights and the importance of proper food safety practices in retail outlets.
