Guruvayur Temple to Introduce Online Virtual Queue System for Darshan
The Guruvayur Devaswom Board has announced the introduction of an online virtual queue booking system to streamline darshan for devotees at the famed Sree Krishna Temple, marking a further step in the growing use of technology to manage crowds at major religious destinations.
Board chairman A V Gopinath said on Saturday that the system will be rolled out on a trial basis to make darshan smoother and reduce the difficulties currently faced by pilgrims. He added that the initiative is expected to improve crowd flow and make access to the temple more organised.
The move comes in compliance with a directive from the Kerala High Court, which had called for measures to ensure a more efficient and hassle-free darshan experience for devotees.
Gopinath also said the Board is planning to introduce a Face App-based system in the future once development is completed, indicating a broader push towards digital verification and regulated entry systems. He noted that the Board’s accounts department has already been fully computerised , reflecting ongoing administrative digitisation.
In addition, several pilgrim facilities , including storage spaces for belongings and drinking water arrangements, are set to be renovated and upgraded in the coming period to improve overall convenience.
The developments at Guruvayur reflect a wider trend across India, where technology is increasingly being deployed to manage large crowds at temples, pilgrim centres, and other high-footfall religious sites, aiming to enhance safety, reduce waiting times, and improve the overall visitor experience while maintaining orderly access to sacred spaces.
