Gurugram police bust cricket betting racket, arrest three during India–England semifinal

In a crackdown on illegal gambling during major cricket events, Gurugram Police arrested three alleged bookies for placing bets on the India–England T20 World Cup semifinal played in Mumbai on Thursday. The arrests were made following a raid conducted by the Kherki Daula police station team after receiving a tip-off about betting activities being run from a residential flat.

The accused were identified as Rahul , Amit , and Paras , all residents of Gurugram. According to police, Rahul and Paras are residents of Sector 91 while Amit lives in Sector 102 of the city.

Acting on the information, police raided a flat in Ansal Heights Society in Sector 81 on Thursday night. During the operation, the three men were allegedly caught placing bets on the live semifinal match between India and England while the game was underway.

Officials said the accused were apprehended from the spot while operating the betting setup. During the raid, the police seized several electronic devices suspected to have been used for running the illegal betting operation.

The recovered items included 11 mobile phones , three laptops , one LED television , a tablet computer , and a mobile charger . Police believe these devices were being used to manage bets and communicate with other participants involved in the activity.

All the equipment has been taken into custody and will be examined as part of the investigation to trace possible financial transactions and connections with other betting networks.

An FIR has been registered under the Public Gambling Act at the Kherki Daula police station. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were linked to a larger betting racket or working with other associates.

Police officials added that surveillance during high-profile cricket tournaments has been intensified to curb illegal betting activities operating through digital devices and online platforms.
