Gunman attached to HYDRAA Commissioner attempts suicide over online betting debts

In a shocking incident, a young armed reserve constable working as a gunman for HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol, reportedly due to severe financial distress caused by online betting.

The constable, identified as Muthyalapati Krishna Chaitanya (2020 batch), was residing in Munaganur under Hayathnagar limits. According to police, he had been addicted to online gaming and betting apps for the past two years. Heavy financial losses led to mounting debts, pushing him into deep mental stress.

On Sunday morning, Chaitanya allegedly shot himself at his residence. Family members noticed him lying unconscious in a pool of blood and immediately rushed him to Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar for emergency treatment.

Upon receiving information, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited the hospital, enquired about the constable’s condition, and spoke to the doctors. Addressing the media later, he appeared visibly emotional and said Chaitanya’s condition was extremely critical. Doctors are making all possible efforts, but the chances of survival are said to be very slim. He expressed concern that financial troubles arising from online betting seem to have driven the constable to take this extreme step.

Meanwhile, Hayathnagar police inspected the scene and seized the service pistol. A clues team collected evidence, and a case has been registered. Police are investigating the debt angle and also examining whether any other factors contributed to the incident.

Chaitanya was known among colleagues as a responsible and active constable. His suicide attempt has left fellow personnel deeply shocked and raised serious concerns about the growing impact of online betting on individuals, even within disciplined services.
