Gulf-Bound International Flights from Tirupati Soon: Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu
Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu has reiterated the Centre’s commitment to transforming Tirupati into a world-class aviation hub befitting its stature as a spiritual capital.
During a high-level review meeting held at Tirupati Airport on Saturday, the minister assessed ongoing development works, passenger amenities and future expansion plans. The meeting was attended by Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and Airports Authority of India Chairman Vipin Kumar , along with senior officials.
Expressing satisfaction over the airport’s rapid growth, Ram Mohan Naidu noted that Tirupati Airport had, for the first time in its history, crossed the one-million passenger mark in a single year. The significant rise in footfall compared to the previous year reflects the region’s growing economic and infrastructural development, he said.
The minister added that efforts are underway to integrate Tirupati with major global destinations as part of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ’s vision of a “Connected Andhra Pradesh.” Special emphasis is being placed on launching international flight services at the earliest, particularly to Gulf countries, to benefit passengers from Rayalaseema and Nellore regions.
Once operational, these services would enable migrant workers and tourists to travel abroad directly from Tirupati, eliminating the need to transit through other metropolitan airports, he explained.
To enhance the experience of pilgrims arriving in the temple town, the minister instructed officials to incorporate local art and cultural elements within the terminal premises, creating an ambience that reflects Tirupati’s spiritual heritage. He also assured that the General Aviation Terminal will be operational soon and that continuous monitoring will ensure improved passenger facilities and infrastructure upgrades.
