Gujarat Detains 609 Undocumented Bangladeshi Nationals Under Operation Delta Hunt

Gujarat Police have detained 609 undocumented Bangladeshi nationals across the state under the ongoing “Operation Delta Hunt” , a coordinated crackdown aimed at identifying and removing illegal immigrants residing in different districts, according to figures released by the Director General of Police (DGP) office on Monday.

The detentions were made till 8 pm on June 6 , with authorities reporting 323 women, 161 men, and 125 children among those apprehended.

The largest number of detentions was reported from Ahmedabad city (207) , followed by Surat city (120) . Other significant numbers include Ahmedabad rural (64) , Bharuch (61) , and Kheda district (22) , indicating widespread enforcement across urban and semi-urban regions of the state.

The statewide drive began on the morning of June 3 , as part of a focused effort by Gujarat Police to identify and detain undocumented Bangladeshi nationals residing without valid authorization. According to officials, the operation was planned in advance and executed across multiple districts simultaneously.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi , who holds the home portfolio, earlier stated that the crackdown was “meticulously planned” and implemented across all regions of Gujarat.

Police officials said the operation relied on a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence inputs to track individuals suspected of living in the state without legal documentation. A majority of those detained were reportedly engaged in manual labour work .

Authorities have also launched a parallel investigation into individuals and entities that may have provided accommodation or employment without mandatory police verification , potentially facilitating illegal stay in the state.

The operation remains ongoing, with further verification and legal proceedings expected as authorities continue screening those detained under the statewide enforcement drive.
