Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved an allocation of Rs 7,737 crore for 124 projects under the state’s Roads and Buildings Department, aiming to strengthen road infrastructure and ensure seamless connectivity across urban and rural areas. The announcement is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, while promoting the Viksit Gujarat initiative.

The allocation includes:

• Rs 5,576 crore for the construction of nine Garvi Gujarat High-Speed Corridors, spanning a total of 809 kilometres. These corridors are designed to enhance road safety, speed, and convenience on high-traffic routes, and are expected to significantly improve the movement of goods and passengers across the state.

• Rs 1,147 crore for 20 climate-resilient and technologically advanced road projects, covering 271 kilometres. The initiative will incorporate innovative construction techniques such as waste plastic, white topping, geo-grid, cement stabilisation, fly ash, and green technology, ensuring roads are durable, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable.

• Rs 986 crore for 79 projects covering 803 kilometres, aimed at improving the surface quality of existing state roads.

As part of this year’s budget, the Gujarat government had announced plans to develop 12 new high-speed corridors. With the current approval, construction has been cleared for nine corridors, covering 809 kilometres. Some of the key routes include Bagodara – Dhandhuka – Barwala – Botad (92.23 km, Rs 67.43 crore), Dehgam – Bayad – Lunawada – Santrampur – Zalod (167.54 km, Rs 1,514.41 crore), and Santroad – Devgadh Baria – Chhota Udepur (64.05 km, Rs 1,062.82 crore).

These high-speed corridors are expected to accelerate transportation, improve road safety, and enhance logistics efficiency under the PM Gati Shakti framework, while reducing operational costs for businesses. The improved connectivity is also projected to stimulate trade, encourage industrial growth, and promote tourism in the adjoining regions.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasised that the projects are being designed with future population growth and traffic requirements in mind, and will utilise modern technology to ensure long-term durability and lower life-cycle costs. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s focus on “ease of living” for citizens, where improved transport infrastructure is a key component.

With these projects, Gujarat aims to establish a well-integrated, resilient, and technologically advanced road network. The new corridors will benefit residents, businesses, and tourists alike, supporting faster travel, regional economic development, and sustainable infrastructure growth.

By investing in high-speed corridors, climate-resilient roads, and surface improvements, the state government has taken a significant step toward modernising Gujarat’s road infrastructure, ensuring safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible connectivity across the state.
