Gruhajyoti scheme lights up homes across T’gana: Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka

The Telangana government continues to prioritize welfare and infrastructure, with major initiatives aimed at improving power supply across the state. As part of this effort, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka laid the foundation stone for electricity development projects worth ₹1,000 crore in the Parigi constituency of Vikarabad district.

The projects include the construction of new power substations, such as nine 33/11 kV substations, a 220 kV substation, and a 400 kV substation. Once completed, these will significantly enhance power quality and supply reliability in the region.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the success of the Gruhajyoti Scheme, describing it as a “lamp of welfare” that is bringing light and relief to millions of households across Telangana. The scheme provides 200 units of free electricity per month to eligible families - currently benefiting over 53 lakh households.

“The government is spending ₹2,830 crore every month on power subsidies under the Gruhajyoti scheme and other support programs for farmers, small traders, and handloom workers. This reflects our commitment to social welfare and inclusive growth,” said Bhatti Vikramarka.

In Vikarabad district alone, around 1.43 lakh families are availing free electricity, including 44,500 families in the Parigi constituency. The scheme has eased the financial burden on low-income and middle-class households, allowing them to spend more on other essential needs.

Each beneficiary family saves roughly ₹1,000-₹1,200 per month on electricity bills - amounting to ₹14,000-₹15,000 annually. Across the state, this translates to an estimated ₹636 crore in monthly savings for the public.

The Deputy Chief Minister also noted that reliable and affordable electricity is helping students study without interruption and enabling small businesses to operate more efficiently. He described the initiative’s slogan - “Light in every home, happiness in every life” - as a reflection of Telangana’s welfare-driven governance model.

“The Gruhajyoti Scheme stands as a symbol of the state’s commitment to improving living standards and ensuring that every household enjoys the benefits of development,” he added.
