Group I re-evaluation halts other Telangana jobs
The Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC) has halted all ongoing recruitment processes for Group-II and Group-III services following a High Court directive to re-evaluate the Group-I Main examination. This pause is intended to prevent administrative backlogs due to overlapping candidate selections across different service groups.
Under the state’s recruitment protocol, Group-I vacancies which involve higher-ranking posts are filled first, followed by Group-II and Group-III openings. This descending recruitment order avoids scenarios where top-performing candidates could vacate Group-III positions if they later secure Group-I or Group-II roles, potentially leading to a cascade of unfilled positions.
Previously, the TSPSC released notifications for 783 Group-II posts and 1,388 Group-III posts. Examinations were conducted and results, including General Ranking Lists, were declared. For Group-II roles, the certificate verification process had even begun. However, all progress has now been suspended until the Group-I process is legally resolved.
The court’s order came after multiple petitions alleging irregularities in the Group-I Main exam, which initially had 563 vacancies. The High Court invalidated the final marks and ranking list, directing that the answer scripts be re-evaluated using a moderation method. The Commission has been granted eight months to complete this re-evaluation, with a warning that any recurrence of malpractice may call for a fresh examination.
The indefinite delay has left thousands of aspiring candidates, particularly top rankers anxious, as there is currently no set timeframe for resuming Group-II and Group-III recruitment. Aspirants are concerned their selections may be further delayed, pending the outcome of the Group-I matter.
Why this matters
• Career Pathway Clarity: For thousands of candidates, especially those qualifying for multiple service groups, clarity on recruitment timelines is crucial for planning career trajectories.
• Administrative Integrity: By suspending downstream hiring until the Group-I process is settled, TSPSC aims to preserve fairness in selection and avoid logistical challenges in reassigning vacancies.
• Public Confidence: The High Court’s oversight intends to uphold transparency and credibility in recruitment processes, essential in public sector employment.
What comes next
TSPSC must complete the Group-I exam re-evaluation within eight months. Only after that process concludes, and results are finalized, will recruitment for Group-II and Group-III posts likely resume. Until then, candidates remain in limbo, awaiting clarity on the next steps.
