F intech leader One 97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, is deepening its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities by deploying Groq’s high-speed AI inference technology across its financial services ecosystem. The move is aimed at improving transaction processing, fraud detection, risk assessment, and customer engagement, the company said on Wednesday.

The partnership represents one of the most significant AI infrastructure upgrades undertaken by an Indian fintech firm. It aligns with Paytm’s long-term strategy to integrate real-time intelligence and automation into its payments and financial platforms.

Groq’s LPUs : The next step beyond GPUs

At the core of this collaboration lies GroqCloud, powered by Language Processing Units (LPUs), a new class of processors developed by the U.S.-based Groq, founded by former Google engineer Jonathan Ross.

Unlike Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), which handle AI workloads by parallelising thousands of smaller tasks, LPUs are designed for deterministic, low-latency computing. This means that they process information in predictable, linear time allowing AI models to deliver instant outputs without unpredictable delays.

While GPUs have powered the global AI boom, they often require large clusters and high energy consumption to handle complex workloads. LPUs, on the other hand, can deliver real-time inference enabling applications such as instant fraud detection, smart transaction routing, and hyper-personalized financial recommendations without lag.

According to the company, AI inference tasks will be performed significantly faster and at lower cost compared to traditional GPU-based systems.

Strategic collaboration for scalable AI :

Under this partnership, Paytm and its associate entities will deploy GroqCloud, enabling high-speed and cost-efficient AI inference at scale. The deployment is expected to enhance operational speed, data accuracy, and user experience across the Paytm app and backend systems. It was stated by the company that “this collaboration strengthens Paytm’s technology foundation by enabling real-time AI inference at scale. It marks another step in our journey to build India’s most advanced AI-driven payment and financial services platform,” according to Paytm Chief Business Officer Narendra Singh Yadav.

This advancement supports Paytm’s continuing investment in AI-led innovation, particularly in automating fraud detection and improving decision-making across billions of transactions handled monthly.

Groq’s vision for AI at scale :

From Groq’s side, the partnership has been described as an important step in expanding real-time AI applications across emerging markets.“Groq is proud to support Paytm in driving real-time AI innovation at national scale. Core to our mission is delivering a broad compute capacity to serve the world’s biggest problems which AI will uniquely solve,” said Scott Albin, General Manager, APAC, Groq.

It was further emphasised that Groq’s LPUs allow AI models to be deployed and scaled faster without the heavy infrastructure and high costs associated with conventional GPU-based systems.

Impact on India’s Fintech ecosystem :

For Paytm, integrating Groq’s technology isn’t just a performance boost it’s a foundation for next-generation financial AI. With faster model inference, the company will be able to detect fraudulent activity in real time, assess risk dynamically, and deliver intelligent insights to users almost instantly.

This move could set a new benchmark for AI performance in India’s fintech industry, as firms increasingly compete on intelligence and personalization rather than just digital reach.

By embracing AI acceleration hardware like Groq’s LPUs, Paytm is positioning itself at the intersection of fintech and frontier computing where speed, intelligence, and trust define the next phase of digital finance.
