Green Signal for Transfer of Waqf Records from Telangana to AP: Abdul Aziz

A major breakthrough has been achieved in the long-pending transfer of Waqf records between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh , bringing relief to the AP Waqf Board nearly ten years after the bifurcation of the erstwhile united state.

Crucial files and official documents related to the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board, which remained in Telangana after the state division, are now likely to be transferred soon. The development follows sustained efforts by AP Waqf Board Chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz, who said the issue had remained unresolved for years despite clear provisions under the Waqf Act , 1995, and the Centre’s bifurcation guidelines.

Aziz stated that after taking charge as chairman, he personally pursued the matter by holding discussions with Telangana Waqf Board officials and senior authorities to expedite the transfer process .

He credited Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minority Welfare Minister N. M. D. Farooq for their key role in resolving the issue through administrative coordination and continuous follow-up.

According to Aziz, the Telangana government has issued directions to release the record room under the Hyderabad Collectorate and hand over the documents to the Telangana State Waqf Board CEO, paving the way for their transfer to Andhra Pradesh.

The Telangana Waqf Board currently holds 2,971 files , eight Survey Commissioner report books, and three gazettes linked to Andhra Pradesh. Special teams from the AP Waqf Board have already begun the verification and inventory process ahead of formally taking possession of the records.

The AP Waqf Board is also taking steps to recover pending dues worth ₹55.5 crore , including deposits and other financial balances.

Aziz said the records are essential for protecting Waqf properties , handling legal disputes, conducting survey verification, and updating information on the Centre’s ‘UMEED’ portal. He asserted that the board would continue efforts to secure every Waqf asset, record, and financial entitlement belonging to Andhra Pradesh.
