
Gowariker to helm 57th IFFI in Goa this November
Acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker has been appointed festival director for the 57th edition of the International Film Festival of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced on Friday.
Gowariker, known for films such as Lagaan , Swades and Jodhaa Akbar , succeeds noted director Shekhar Kapur, who led the previous two editions of the festival. Expressing his gratitude, Gowariker said it was a matter of immense pride to take on the role and contribute to the festival’s continuing legacy.
The 57th edition of IFFI is scheduled to be held in November 2026 in Goa, continuing its long-standing tradition of hosting the event in the coastal state.
Established in 1952, IFFI is regarded as one of Asia’s premier film festivals. It serves as a major platform for showcasing outstanding films from across the world, while fostering cultural exchange and dialogue within the global film community. Over the decades, it has grown into a significant hub for filmmakers, industry professionals and cinema enthusiasts.
With Gowariker at the helm, the upcoming edition is expected to further strengthen the festival’s international appeal while celebrating excellence in cinema.
