Govt offices go plastic-free in Andhra

During a "Swachhta Hi Seva" awareness program in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh's Municipal Administration Minister, P. Narayana, made a series of significant announcements regarding the state's cleanliness initiatives. He stated that a complete ban on plastic will be implemented in all government offices starting on October 2nd, a move that aligns with the state's broader goal of environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, Minister Narayana set an ambitious target for the state to be completely garbage-free by December 31st. This objective reflects the government's strong commitment to improving sanitation and public health. To achieve this, the government is focusing on not only waste collection but also on its efficient processing.

Complementing the minister's announcement, the Chairman of the Swachhanda Corporation, Pattabhi, detailed the logistical steps being taken. He revealed that 50 new garbage processing centers are being established across the state. These centers are designed to ensure that all garbage collected on any given day is processed immediately, preventing the accumulation of waste and the creation of new dump sites.

This multi-pronged approach banning plastics, targeting a garbage-free status, and building new processing infrastructure demonstrates a comprehensive strategy to transform Andhra Pradesh into a cleaner and greener state. The "Swachhta Hi Seva" program, a part of the larger Swachh Bharat Mission, aims to foster community participation and make cleanliness a collective responsibility.
