In a major push to strengthen India’s creative economy, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has partnered with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies to roll out a nationwide artificial intelligence (AI) skilling programme aimed at creative professionals. The initiative, developed in collaboration with Google and YouTube, will offer 15,000 scholarships to train emerging talent in media, entertainment, animation, gaming and digital storytelling.

The programme is designed to equip participants with industry-relevant AI skills through a structured two-phase format combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Enrolment for the initiative is currently open.

In the first phase, participants will undergo approximately 33 hours of online training focused on building foundational AI literacy. This includes modules on generative AI concepts, prompt engineering and responsible AI practices, along with access to professional certification courses and learning pathways developed by Google.

Candidates who successfully complete the initial stage will advance to the second phase, which adopts a hybrid model of learning. This stage emphasises hands-on experience through project-based modules in storytelling, creative production and the use of advanced AI tools. The curriculum, co-developed by IICT and YouTube, will also incorporate platform-specific best practices to help creators enhance content reach and audience engagement.

The training will be delivered through the “AI Skills House” platform, which offers structured learning tracks covering generative AI applications, workflow automation and decision-making tools. Participants will also gain exposure to real-world tools and guided modules designed to simulate industry workflows.

According to officials, the initiative aims to build a skilled talent pool capable of integrating AI into content creation, production and distribution processes. By combining technical proficiency with creative application, the programme seeks to prepare professionals for the rapidly evolving digital media landscape.

Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, CEO of IICT, said the initiative addresses a critical national requirement by preparing creative professionals for the practical use of AI across sectors. He added that the programme has been tailored as a selective, impact-driven pathway for high-potential talent.

With India’s media and entertainment industry witnessing rapid digital transformation, the government sees the initiative as a key step towards fostering innovation and ensuring creators remain competitive in an AI-driven global ecosystem.
