Govt Dismisses Rumours on MANUU Land Acquisition
The Telangana government has no plans whatsoever to acquire land belonging to Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Minister Mohammed Azharruddin said on Friday, dismissing reports and speculation as completely baseless.
Speaking to the media, the minister clarified that all land owned by MANUU remains intact and secure, and that the government has not taken, nor intends to take, any steps to take over university property. He said rumours suggesting otherwise were misleading and created unnecessary confusion.
Explaining the origin of the controversy, Azharruddin said it stemmed from a notice issued by the district administration. However, he stressed that the notice was not related to land acquisition . Instead, it was issued in response to audit observations, advising the university to make more effective use of its land.
“The notice was purely administrative in nature and based on audit remarks. It had nothing to do with taking over land,” the minister said, adding that the district collector issued it only to encourage better utilisation of available resources.
Following the notice, the university registrar met the district collector three days ago and outlined MANUU’s future development plans. After the discussion, the collector assured that the notice would be withdrawn, Azharruddin said.
He added that the assurance was formally communicated to the media through an official press note. “There is absolutely no question of the government acquiring MANUU land. This needs to be made very clear,” the minister said.
