Governor Jishnu Dev Varma launches Telangana–North East India connect festival in the city

In a significant step towards fostering cultural unity and technological innovation, the Telangana-North East India Connect Techno-Cultural Festival was officially launched yesterday at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad. The event, unveiled by Hon’ble Governor Shri Jishnu Dev Varma and Minister Shri Jupalli Krishna Rao, marks a vibrant celebration of India’s diverse heritage under the banner of "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" and "Aatma Nirbhar Bharat."

Ceremonial launch and cultural showcase

The launch ceremony saw the dignitaries unveiling the festival’s official website (tgneconnect.in) and publicity materials, symbolizing a bridge between Telangana and the eight North Eastern states Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The event featured captivating cultural performances by artists from the Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy (Imphal) and students from the University of Hyderabad, showcasing a fusion of traditional arts and modern innovation. Photographs from the event captured a group of dignitaries applauding the initiative, a collective display of festival posters, and a live demonstration of the website on a large screen adorned with bilingual Hindi-English motifs. The ambiance at Raj Bhavan, with its elegant chandeliers and wooden interiors, added a regal touch to the proceedings.

Vision and objectives

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma emphasized the festival’s role in integrating the North East into India’s cultural and economic mainstream. “This festival will be a celebration of unity through shared heritage, creativity, and innovation,” he affirmed. The initiative aligns with Telangana’s growth ambitions, including the development of an AI City, and focuses on women empowerment, youth engagement, and social awareness. The two-phase festival, scheduled from November 25-27 and December 2-4, 2025, will be held at Raj Bhavan and the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC). It promises to host prominent personalities from both regions, featuring traditional arts, modern tech exhibits, and cross-cultural dialogues.

Background and preparations

The festival builds on a high-level coordination meeting held in July 2025 at Raj Bhavan, where plans were finalized to strengthen inter-regional ties. In August, a nationwide creative contest was launched to design the festival’s logo, reflecting themes of cultural harmony and technological exchange. The event is supervised by Principal Secretary to the Governor, M. Dana Kishore, and aims to position Hyderabad as a global hub for artificial intelligence and innovation.
