Government Seals Three Firecracker Units After Deadly Dewas Blast in Indore
A day after a deadly explosion at a firecracker factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district claimed five lives, authorities in neighbouring Indore launched a crackdown on firecracker manufacturing units and sealed three factories for violating safety norms.
Officials said the inspections were intensified in view of the Dewas blast as well as the prevailing extreme heat conditions , which increase the risk of fire accidents at such facilities.
Additional District Magistrate Roshan Rai said a firecracker factory in Khajuria village was sealed after an inspection revealed deficiencies in mandatory safety standards. Authorities also shut down two firecracker units in Rajdhara village after finding similar lapses, officials added.
Surprise inspections were also carried out at factories in Dhaturia and Panchderiya villages as part of a district-wide safety review of firecracker warehouses and manufacturing units.
The action follows Thursday’s explosion at a firecracker factory in the Tonk Kalan area of Dewas district , in which five workers were killed and 23 others injured. The incident triggered concerns over safety compliance at firecracker units operating across the region.
Officials said the sealed factories failed to meet prescribed safety requirements related to storage, handling of explosive materials and fire prevention measures. Further inspections are expected in the coming days to ensure compliance and prevent similar accidents.
