Gorantla Madhav Accuses Government of Misusing Police in Tenali Case
YSRCP leader and former MP Gorantla Madhav has accused the TDP-led coalition government of allegedly misusing the police machinery for political purposes, citing the recent district court ruling in the Tenali case. Speaking to the media at the YSRCP office on Wednesday, Madhav questioned the conduct of the police and alleged that the case against four young men was politically motivated.
Madhav said police had registered an attempt-to-murder case against four youths from Tenali in April 2025. He alleged that three of them were taken into custody and beaten while being paraded through public roads. A video purportedly showing the youths being assaulted surfaced on social media in May last year, prompting criticism from human rights groups and political leaders.
The case originated from a complaint filed by police constable Kanna Chiranjeevi, who alleged that four persons attacked him near Aithanagar in Tenali on April 24, 2025. Police subsequently booked Vemu Naveen alias Killer, John Victor, Doma Rakesh and Sheikh Karimulla in connection with the alleged assault. At the time, police maintained that the case was registered following the attack on the constable and that three of the accused were arrested and produced before a court.
Madhav, however, questioned the manner in which the investigation was conducted and alleged that the police action was influenced by political considerations. He demanded that the coalition government explain the treatment meted out to the accused and respond to allegations that police personnel were being used to pursue political interests under what he described as a “Red Book Constitution.”
The former MP said the district court's decision had raised questions over the extent of political interference in the police system. He also alleged that the coalition government and certain media organisations targeted YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy when he attempted to meet the young men and their families.
Madhav also referred to the death of Sai Krishna in custody, alleging that human rights violations occurred in that case as well. He claimed that Sai Krishna's parents were not even given his ashes.
He recalled that the Human Rights Forum had earlier stressed that police must follow due legal procedure while dealing with the accused in the Tenali case, regardless of the allegations against them. Madhav said people were closely watching alleged human rights violations under the coalition government and demanded accountability from the authorities.
