Google Launches New AI Initiatives for Developers, Startups and Enterprises in India

Tech giant Google on Tuesday unveiled a series of new initiatives aimed at accelerating the adoption of frontier and agentic AI across India, targeting developers, startups, enterprises, educators and researchers. The announcements were made at Google I/O Connect India 2026 in Bengaluru.

The company also highlighted the growing impact of its ecosystem, stating that the Google Play and Android ecosystem generated ₹5.3 lakh crore in revenue for app publishers and the wider Indian economy in 2025, representing a 28 per cent increase over 2024.

Speaking at the event, Manish Gupta , Senior Director for India and APAC at Google DeepMind , said India is rapidly adopting AI across sectors, from local businesses to national healthcare initiatives, and that Google aims to support this momentum through advanced AI technologies, on-premise capabilities and a strong focus on safety.

Among the key announcements was the launch of AI Research Foundations , a free 56-hour curriculum designed by Google DeepMind to help learners build and fine-tune Large Language Models (LLMs) and conduct advanced AI research. The programme, available through Google's learning platforms, is being scaled in partnership with NASSCOM , IISc Bengaluru and AVPN , with participants eligible for Google Cloud skill badges and certifications.

Google also introduced ATL Saathi , a Gemini-powered web application developed with the Atal Innovation Mission . The platform will help teachers deliver the Atal Tinkering Labs curriculum and design hands-on experiments for students. It will initially be deployed in 100 schools this year, with a long-term goal of reaching 10,000 schools .

To address emerging cyber threats linked to agentic AI, Google announced Sec-Gemini v3 , a specialised cybersecurity agent capable of analysing complex security data and assisting organisations in investigating incidents rapidly. The tool is being tested by trusted government and enterprise partners, including Flipkart .

The company also highlighted AI's growing role in healthcare, noting that researchers at AIIMS Delhi are using Google's MedGemma open models to develop India-specific solutions for leprosy and sexual and reproductive health . The resulting models will be made available to the wider Indian developer ecosystem.

Google further announced that Gemini Live now supports 25 Indian languages and dialects , including Sanskrit, Bhojpuri and Maithili. In a move to strengthen digital sovereignty , the company said Gemini 3.5 Flash is now available to Indian enterprises with strict in-country machine learning processing commitments. Organisations can also deploy Gemini through Google Distributed Cloud within Indian data centres, including environments disconnected from the public internet.

Additionally, Google has open-sourced CAPSEM (Capabilities Security for Agents) , a secure runtime environment that isolates AI agents inside virtual machines to improve protection against malicious prompts and security breaches. The company is also collaborating with IIT Delhi and IIT Madras on research focused on agentic AI safety , early threat detection and the development of next-generation AI safeguards.
