Golden Gloves, Golden Day: Indian Boxers Fuel Record 8-Gold Commonwealth Games Surge

India produced its most successful day at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with the country's athletes delivering a stunning all-round performance led by a record-breaking boxing campaign, a historic judo medal haul, and a landmark showing from its para athletes.

The spectacular medal rush propelled India to fourth place in the standings with 13 gold, 17 silver and 8 bronze medals, taking the overall tally to 38 medals heading into the final day of competition.

The biggest talking point was India's unprecedented dominance inside the boxing ring. The contingent finished with seven gold and three silver medals, making it the nation's greatest-ever Commonwealth Games boxing performance and enough to top the boxing medal table.

India's women boxers led the charge, with Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas, Sakshi Chaudhary and Arundhati Choudhary winning gold medals in their respective weight categories. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain added a silver after finishing runner-up in the 75kg final.

The men's squad matched the momentum as Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal captured gold medals, while Jadumani Singh and Narender Berwal settled for silver, comfortably surpassing India's previous best boxing campaign at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

India also celebrated its best-ever Commonwealth Games performance in judo. Harsh Singh and Asmita Dey became the country's first-ever Commonwealth Games judo gold medallists, while Yamini Mourya secured silver. Unnati Sharma added another memorable chapter by clinching bronze in the women's 63kg event after defeating South Africa's Skye Knoester by ippon in just over a minute, taking India's judo tally to a record four medals.

The celebrations continued in para athletics, where Soman Rana struck gold in the men's F57 shot put with a season-best 13.40m, leading an Indian one-two alongside silver medallist Shubham Juyal. In the men's triple jump, Praveen Chithravel claimed silver and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran took bronze.

The 28-member Indian para contingent concluded its campaign with seven medals, three gold, two silver and two bronze, equalling the total medals won by India across all previous Commonwealth Games editions combined. The athletes also ended a 20-year wait for a para athletics medal at the Games while setting a Games record and an Asian record, underlining the growing strength of India's para sports programme.

With momentum firmly on its side, India heads into the final day chasing more medals and hoping to finish its Glasgow campaign on another high.
