Golden glory for India at Indonesia Para-Badminton

India’s para-badminton stars delivered a powerhouse performance at the Indonesia Para-Badminton International, clinching a rich haul of medals that included six golds, five silvers, and multiple bronzes. The dynamic duo of Pramod Bhagat and Sukant Kadam led the way, showcasing India’s growing dominance in the sport.

Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Pramod Bhagat combined brilliantly with Sukant Kadam to claim the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 gold, defeating Indonesia’s Dwiyoko and Setiawan 21-16, 21-12 in straight games. The experienced pair controlled the match with tactical precision and aggressive shot-making, silencing the home crowd in Jakarta.

“It’s an incredible feeling to win gold with Sukant after such a demanding tournament. Every medal reflects our hard work and the pride of representing India,” said Bhagat after the triumph. Kadam echoed the sentiment, adding, “Our connection on court was strong all week. Beating the local pair for gold shows the level we are playing at. This win gives us great momentum for the season ahead.”

India’s success didn’t stop there. In the men’s singles events, Nitesh Kumar (SL3) and Sivakumar (SL4) produced commanding performances to secure gold medals, further cementing India’s status as a global powerhouse in para-badminton.

In the women’s section, Manisha Ramdass displayed flawless consistency to win the SU5 singles gold, while Sumathy Sivan triumphed in the SH6 category, rounding off a stellar campaign for India’s women shuttlers.

Bhagat also bagged a bronze in mixed doubles, while Tokyo Paralympic champion Krishna Nagar earned a silver in mixed doubles SH6 and a bronze in men’s singles SH6. Krishna and Sumathy fought valiantly in the mixed doubles final before going down to Indonesia’s Subhan and Marlina 13-21, 9-21.

Among other medallists, Solaimalai (silver, SH6 men’s), S Kumar (silver, WH1 men’s), Prem Kumar and Alphina James (silver, mixed doubles WH1-WH2), and Abu Hubaida with Prem Kumar (silver, men’s doubles WH1-WH2) added to India’s glittering tally.

India’s commanding show in Jakarta reaffirmed its rising stature in global para-badminton, a performance marked by teamwork, resilience, and unyielding national pride.
