Gold and Silver Prices Stay High: What It Means for Indian Buyers and Traders

Gold and silver prices remained elevated in Bengaluru, with 22-carat gold closing at Rs 14,700 per gram, 24-carat gold at Rs 16,050 per gram and silver at Rs 2,52,000 per kg on Saturday, according to PTI.

The closing bullion rates provide a snapshot of prices in one of India’s major jewellery markets as precious metals continue to attract attention from jewellery buyers, investors and bullion traders.

Gold is widely used in India for jewellery as well as investment, while silver has both investment and industrial applications. Changes in bullion prices can therefore affect different segments of the market in different ways.

The World Gold Council has reported that higher gold prices have affected jewellery demand in India, with consumers and retailers responding to elevated prices. Wedding-related purchases have continued, while some buyers have shifted towards lighter-weight jewellery and old-gold exchange transactions.

Investment activity has also remained an important part of the market. Gold exchange-traded funds, or gold ETFs, have attracted inflows as investors seek exposure to the metal without purchasing physical jewellery or bullion.

Physical gold demand, however, remains sensitive to price movements. Higher prices increase the cost of jewellery purchases and can influence the timing and size of consumer purchases.

Silver prices have also gained attention as the metal serves both as an investment asset and a raw material for industries. Demand for silver is linked to sectors including manufacturing and other industrial uses, alongside jewellery and investment demand.

The Bengaluru closing rates on Saturday were:

22-carat gold: Rs 14,700 per gram

24-carat gold: Rs 16,050 per gram

Silver: Rs 2,52,000 per kg

Bullion prices in India are influenced by international precious-metal prices, currency movements, import costs and domestic demand. Local rates can also vary between cities and sellers depending on taxes, charges and market conditions.

The latest Bengaluru rates come as consumers and market participants track movements in gold and silver prices ahead of the festive and wedding-demand period.
