The Godavari River is witnessing a steady rise in water levels at Bhadrachalam, prompting authorities to issue the first flood warning as inflows continue to increase across the river basin.

According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), the river level at Bhadrachalam reached 45.9 feet at 1 pm on July 31, crossing the threshold for the first warning level. Officials said the situation is being closely monitored as upstream inflows continue to push water levels higher.

At the Dowleswaram Barrage, the current inflow and outflow stand at 2,36,870 cusecs, reflecting the growing volume of water moving downstream. Authorities indicated that if the inflows continue at the present pace, the first flood warning could be issued at the barrage by Friday night, followed by a second warning on Saturday morning, depending on river conditions.

APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said officials are maintaining constant surveillance over the flood situation in the Godavari basin districts to ensure timely response and preparedness.

Residents living in low-lying areas and Lanka villages have been advised to remain alert and closely follow official updates. Authorities have also urged people to avoid entering the river for activities such as bathing or fishing, as water currents can become dangerous during periods of rising flood levels.

In addition, commuters have been cautioned against travelling on roads submerged by floodwaters, as such routes can pose serious safety risks. Disaster management officials said all vulnerable communities should take necessary precautions and cooperate with local authorities until the flood threat subsides.

The administration continues to monitor the evolving situation and has appealed to the public to rely only on official advisories while exercising utmost caution in flood-prone areas.
