The Andhra Pradesh government has officially announced that the Godavari Pushkaralu, often described as South India’s Kumbh Mela, will be held from June 26 to July 7, 2027 , spanning 12 days . Government orders to this effect were issued on Friday.

Former Secretary of the Revenue (Endowments–II) Department, M. Hari Jawaharlal , said the dates were finalised after a comprehensive review of various religious, administrative, and astronomical factors.

As part of the astrological determination, the government sought guidance from T. Venkata Krishna Poorna Prasad , Asthana Siddhanti of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Based on the panchangam and astronomical calculations provided by him, the government approved the conduct of the Pushkaralu during the specified period.

Godavari Pushkaralu is one of the most significant spiritual festivals in Andhra Pradesh. Lakhs of devotees from across the country gather along the banks of the Godavari River to take the holy dip, which is believed to absolve sins. The event attracts massive crowds, comparable to the Kumbh Mela.

With the dates confirmed, departments including Endowments, Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, and Police have begun preparatory work. Construction and renovation of bathing ghats are being expedited, while arrangements for drinking water, sanitation, and toilets are underway. Medical camps and ambulance services are also being planned for devotees.

The government is working to strengthen transport facilities, including the operation of special buses, while focusing on security, crowd management, temporary accommodations, and queue systems. Special arrangements are being planned in areas expected to witness heavy footfall, such as Rajamahendravaram, Kovvur, Dowleswaram, Dharmapuri, and Bhadrachalam .

The government has directed all departments to prepare detailed action plans for the smooth conduct of the Pushkaralu. Inter-departmental coordination committees are likely to be constituted shortly.
