
Goal to Develop Srikakulam as a Model City: Minister Achennaidu
Minister Kinjara Achennaidu stated that the government's primary objective is to transform Srikakulam city into a model city in the state. He highlighted that, through joint efforts of the central and state governments , planned steps are being taken to upgrade the city's infrastructure. On Sunday, several development projects, completed under the leadership of the UDA , were inaugurated by Central Minister Rammohan Naidu , along with local MLA Gondu Shankar and the district collector , in the presence of NDA coalition leaders.
Minister Achennaidu dedicated the Cargil Victory Park , built at a cost of ₹2 crore , to the nation. The park commemorates the bravery of 58 soldiers from Srikakulam district , including Havildar Chinni Simhachalam and Havildar Tomp Neelachalam , who fought in the 1999 Kargil War . The gallery, showcasing their sacrifices, serves as an inspiration for the younger generation. The park also features box cricket and pickleball courts for sports enthusiasts.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to women’s dignity and safety , Achennaidu inaugurated state-of-the-art “Pink Toilets” at busy locations such as Day and Night Junction and near the Women’s College , along with dedicated feeding rooms for infants. He emphasised that these facilities address challenges faced by women in public spaces.
As part of city expansion, Minister Achennaidu inspected road widening, central lighting , and divider plantation works along the stretch from Ramalakshmana Koodali to Peddapadu Junction . Improved lighting at night is expected to reduce crime and create a safer environment for the elderly and women. He also urged citizens to cooperate in making the city pollution-free and green.
Highlighting the importance of community involvement, the minister stressed that the public must responsibly utilise government facilities to ensure the city’s sustainable development. The event saw participation from district officials, political leaders, and a large number of local residents.
