Goa to Host ‘Shackathon’ Blending Beach Culture With Tech Innovation
Goa Shackathon will be held in Goa from May 21 , bringing together startups, innovators, students and remote professionals for a unique beachside work-and-collaboration experience aimed at promoting technology-driven innovation .
The two-day event, organised by the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C), seeks to transform Goa’s iconic beach shacks into temporary creative workspaces where participants can ideate, network and build solutions to real-world challenges.
Announcing the initiative, Rohan Khaunte said the event reflects Goa’s growing ambition to position itself as a global destination for remote work, innovation and startup culture .
“Goa offers a rare synergy where one can work, think and live in perfect harmony. With this Goa Shackathon, we're showcasing the state as a global hub for remote work and creative innovation,” the minister said.
Unlike conventional hackathons typically held in offices or academic campuses, the Shackathon combines technology and entrepreneurship with Goa’s relaxed coastal lifestyle. Officials said the concept is inspired by global ‘workation’ trends that blend productivity with wellness and experiential living.
The event will feature collaborative work sessions, networking opportunities and breakout discussions on emerging technologies, startups, digital entrepreneurship and remote work culture . A dedicated hackathon segment will run simultaneously, where teams will identify problem statements and develop technology-based solutions within a limited timeframe.
Participants will include startups, designers, coders, influencers, content creators and remote professionals from different sectors, creating a multidisciplinary innovation ecosystem along Goa’s coastline.
To complement the work sessions, organisers have also planned experiential activities such as watersports, sightseeing and cultural interactions, highlighting the work-life balance model that Goa seeks to promote as part of its emerging digital economy and tourism strategy.
