GMR Airports reported an 86 per cent jump in profit after tax to ₹65.38 crore in the September quarter of the current financial year, supported by higher revenue. The company had posted a profit after tax of ₹35.06 crore in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.

The company's total income rose to ₹4,188.49 crore in the July-September quarter, compared with ₹3,754.38 crore in the same period last year, according to its regulatory filing.

However, despite the growth in profit, GMR Airports reported a total comprehensive loss of ₹80.75 crore attributable to the company's owners during the quarter. This was a reversal from the comprehensive income of ₹14.30 crore recorded in the year-ago period.

Founded in 1978, the GMR Group has grown from its early business ventures into a major infrastructure player, with interests in airport development and operations. Its airport portfolio spans five Indian states and the Union Territory of Delhi, including key aviation hubs such as Delhi and Hyderabad.

The company's airports handled 28 million passengers during the September quarter, highlighting the scale of its operations and the demand for air travel across its network.

In a key management development, GMR Airports appointed Sanjeev Gupta as an Additional Director and designated him Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective October 29.

The quarterly results reflect an improvement in reported profitability and income, even as the comprehensive loss points to pressure on other components of the company's overall financial performance.
