Global Tiger Day: PM Modi Celebrates India's Tiger Triumph, Home to Nearly 70% of the World's Tigers

India's remarkable success in tiger conservation came into focus once again on Global Tiger Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending greetings to wildlife enthusiasts and highlighting the country's position as home to nearly 70 per cent of the world's tiger population.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister said every Indian takes pride in the nation's extraordinary achievement in protecting one of the world's most iconic species. He noted that India's conservation efforts have transformed the country into the largest habitat for wild tigers, reflecting years of dedicated policy measures, scientific management and public participation.

Marking International Tiger Day, observed every year on July 29, Modi said India's approach to wildlife conservation is deeply rooted in its centuries-old tradition of living in harmony with nature. He emphasised that the country's success has been possible through the combined efforts of governments, forest officials, conservationists, local communities and citizens committed to safeguarding biodiversity.

The Prime Minister also reiterated the Centre's commitment to science-based conservation, community participation, and sustainable development, saying these pillars will continue to guide future efforts to strengthen tiger protection across the country. He underlined that balancing ecological preservation with development remains central to India's environmental vision.

India has emerged as a global leader in tiger conservation through measures such as expanding protected habitats, strengthening anti-poaching mechanisms, improving wildlife monitoring, and encouraging community-led conservation initiatives. These efforts have helped secure healthy tiger populations across several reserves while enhancing biodiversity conservation.

Global Tiger Day serves as an annual reminder of the urgent need to protect the endangered species and preserve its natural habitat. The day also encourages governments, conservation organisations and citizens worldwide to work together in ensuring the long-term survival of tigers in the wild.

With India continuing to set an example in wildlife conservation, the Prime Minister's message reinforced the country's resolve to protect its rich natural heritage for future generations while inspiring global efforts to conserve the majestic big cat.
