Girls’ education is key to national progress: Odisha Governor Kambhampati Haribabu

Odisha Governor Kambhampati Haribabu highlighted that girls’ education is a harbinger of social change and plays a crucial role in the development of the nation. He inaugurated the new building of ‘Nivedita Gurukulam’ at Unguturu Mandal Centre in Eluru district on Sunday. During the second annual celebrations of the Gurukulam , he was the chief guest and addressed the gathering.

The Governor emphasised that a Gurukulam is not just a centre for academic lessons but a holistic institution that instills discipline, personality development, and self-confidence. He added, " When a girl is educated, the entire family benefits. Through the development of families, society and, in turn, the nation are strengthened socially and economically. " He also remembered the services of Sister Nivedita , noting that although she was born abroad, she made India her land of action and worked for women’s empowerment.

Concern Over Education of Marginalised Groups

While the nation is progressing in all sectors, the Governor expressed concern that literacy among Scheduled Tribe (ST) girls remains low , particularly in states like Odisha. He stressed the need for special focus on tribal girls’ education . He also pointed out that the National Education Policy-2020 , introduced by the central government, aims to develop students not merely as job seekers but as individuals capable of creating employment opportunities.

As part of the celebrations, students performed cultural programs and adventurous displays that impressed the audience. Alongside conducting a homa (sacred ritual), they showcased Kolattam, yoga asanas, rope yoga, cycling stunts, and braided Kolattam , demonstrating their talents. The Governor expressed optimism that students learning modern education alongside yoga and Vedic studies will grow to become custodians of Indian culture in the future.

The program was attended by Ratan Tata Innovation Hub CEO Dhatri Reddy, Sri Vignana Vihar Vice President Vallabhneni Sudhakar Chowdhary, Dr. Chadalavada Nageswararao, Dasari Venkata Balavardhana Rao, Koneru Satyanarayana, Gokaraju Gangaraju, RSS All India functionary Bhaghayya, Headmistress Savitri, representatives of the education committee, and parents of students.
