Gill’s 86, Rabada-Siraj Blitz Power GT to Dominant Win Over KKR
Shubman Gill struck a classy 86 as Gujarat Titans cruised to a five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League on Friday.
The victory was set up by a sharp new-ball spell from Kagiso Rabada (3/29) and Mohammed Siraj (2/23), who dismantled KKR’s top order and restricted them to 180.
Gill then took charge of the chase with composure and authority. Mixing elegance with controlled aggression, he struck eight fours and four sixes, ensuring GT remained ahead throughout. The contest was effectively decided in the powerplay itself — KKR stumbled to 37 for 3, while GT surged to 71 for 1 , gaining early control.
Gill started briskly, finding boundaries with ease before settling into a steady rhythm. Though KKR managed a few breakthroughs, they failed to build any sustained pressure. After Sai Sudharsan departed, Jos Buttler kept up the tempo with an attacking cameo, striking a boundary off his first ball and following it up with a six.
Earlier, KKR endured a shaky start as Rabada and Siraj exploited movement to reduce them to three wickets inside four overs. Ajinkya Rahane fell for a golden duck , while Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Tim Seifert also perished cheaply.
Amid the collapse, Cameron Green stood tall with a fighting 79 off 55 balls , anchoring the innings through crucial partnerships with Rovman Powell and Anukul Roy. He shifted gears in the middle overs and even took on Rashid Khan with confidence.
However, Green lacked support at the other end as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. He also enjoyed a slice of luck, surviving an LBW appeal and a dropped catch by Washington Sundar, but his lone effort wasn’t enough.
With the early damage proving decisive and Gill steering the chase expertly, Gujarat Titans sealed a comfortable win , handing KKR yet another defeat in the season.
