Gill hit with ₹12 lakh fine after nail-biting GT vs DC clash
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s Indian Premier League 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium . The penalty came despite Gujarat Titans securing a dramatic one-run victory in one of the season’s most gripping encounters.
According to an IPL media advisory , the penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct , which deals with minimum over-rate violations. As it was Gujarat Titans’ first offence of the season, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh.
The match itself delivered edge-of-the-seat drama. Chasing a challenging target of 210 , Delhi Capitals fought hard but eventually finished at 209 for 8 , falling agonisingly short in the final moments of the contest.
The closing seconds of the game were particularly tense. With the match hanging in the balance, David Miller momentarily misjudged the situation by refusing a single on the penultimate delivery bowled by Prasidh Krishna , leaving the Capitals needing a boundary from the final ball. Miller then failed to connect with the last delivery, ending Delhi’s hopes.
The drama continued even after the miss. Kuldeep Yadav attempted a desperate run , but Jos Buttler’s sharp direct hit ensured the Capitals could not steal the extra run, sealing a narrow victory for the Titans.
The win marked Gujarat Titans’ first victory of the IPL 2026 season , providing an early boost to Gill’s side despite the captain’s personal setback with the fine.
Looking ahead, Gujarat Titans will travel to Lucknow for their next match against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday , while Delhi Capitals will aim to bounce back when they face Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Saturday .
