Gill, Abhishek Sharma to Light Up New Sher-e-Punjab T20 League From August 30

Punjab cricket is set to enter an exciting new chapter with the launch of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League, a tournament that has already grabbed attention thanks to the participation of some of India's biggest cricketing names, including Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Gurnoor Brar, Prabhsimran Singh and Ramandeep Singh.

The tournament's official logo was unveiled at the Punjab Cricket Association International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, marking the beginning of what officials hope will become one of India's leading domestic T20 competitions. The inaugural edition will be held from August 30 to September 13, with six teams battling across 27 matches in a round-robin format before the title clash.

Although India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill and pacer Gurnoor Brar will be on national duty in Sri Lanka until August 28, both are expected to be part of the league after the international assignment.

Speaking at the launch, Gill described the tournament as a major platform for Punjab's emerging cricketers, saying it will help talented youngsters showcase their abilities and move closer to representing Punjab and India.

Reflecting on his own journey, Gill recalled his early cricketing days in Fazilka, where his father's unwavering support helped shape his career. He also spoke about the family's cricket academy, which provides free coaching to children from nearby villages, saying the initiative is aimed at giving aspiring cricketers opportunities that can transform their future.

Each franchise in the league will feature one marquee player along with at least two icon players, ensuring young talent gets the chance to share the dressing room with experienced international cricketers.

Punjab Cricket Association secretary Gurmeet Singh highlighted the state's rich cricketing legacy, from Lala Amarnath and Yuvraj Singh to current stars like Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh and India women's captain Harmanpreet Kaur. He expressed confidence that the new league would strengthen Punjab's reputation as one of India's biggest talent-producing states.

PCA president Amarjeet Mehta added that the league would provide aspiring cricketers with a bigger stage to showcase their talent, learn from established stars and take the next step in their careers, making the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League a significant addition to India's domestic cricket calendar.
