GHMC Steps Up Preparations For Hyderabad Ganesh Celebrations
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is stepping up preparations for the 2026 Ganesh festivities, with a focus on ensuring smooth coordination, public safety and uninterrupted civic services across the city.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan reviewed the arrangements with senior officials and representatives of various departments at the GHMC headquarters. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination across the newly formed circles and zones, including areas recently brought under the civic body’s jurisdiction.
With Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14 and the main immersion scheduled for September 25, officials reviewed idol procession routes, immersion points, traffic management and crowd safety measures. The civic body has also directed departments to strengthen sanitation, electricity supply, street lighting, medical assistance and emergency response systems.
Major immersion locations will be equipped with static and mobile cranes, while boats, trained swimmers and lifesaving equipment will be kept ready to respond to emergencies. GHMC will also deploy mobile toilets, undertake fogging operations and maintain round-the-clock sanitation at key locations throughout the celebrations.
Commissioner Karnan instructed zonal commissioners to hold coordination meetings with all concerned departments and accelerate preparatory works. A special coordination mechanism will be put in place for the Balapur Ganesh procession and immersion, given the scale of the event.
A dedicated control room will monitor developments during the festivities and facilitate quick responses to emerging issues. Road repairs along procession routes and crane-related works are targeted for completion by September 13, a day before Ganesh Chaturthi.
The GHMC said the preparations are aimed at providing devotees with a clean, safe and well-managed environment while ensuring that civic and emergency services remain fully operational throughout the celebrations.
