An Indian puppy adoption drive organised by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at KBR Park in Hyderabad drew an encouraging response. Held under the slogan, “Be a Hero… Adopt, Don’t Shop,” the event was inaugurated by Ministers Seethakka and Konda Surekha , along with Member of Parliament Renuka Chowdary .

On the occasion, the leaders interacted with adopters and personally handed over the puppies. They emphasised that dogs are loyal companions and urged citizens to treat them not merely as pets but as family members . They also noted that adopting indigenous breeds over foreign ones would help reduce the number of stray dogs and that native puppies adapt more quickly to local climatic conditions.

Adoption as a Symbol of Love

A total of 50 healthy, vaccinated and dewormed Indian puppies were showcased at the fair, of which 30 were adopted by city residents. Officials advised adopters to ensure regular vaccination and sterilisation (birth control surgery).

The programme, held around Valentine’s Day , highlighted the bond between humans and animals. The ministers described adoption as an effective way to address the stray dog issue and appealed to more citizens to come forward and provide shelter to these voiceless animals.
