GHMC Cracks Down on Footpath Encroachments Across Hyderabad
In a bid to enhance pedestrian safety , the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a large-scale operation against footpath encroachments across the city. Officials carried out an intensive drive on Saturday in all six zones , targeting illegal structures obstructing walkways.
Hundreds of permanent and temporary encroachments causing inconvenience to pedestrians are being removed. GHMC teams have taken to the field, using JCB machines to demolish unauthorised structures and clear footpaths.
On the Attapur main road , officials cleared illegal sheds, signboards, and spaces encroached upon by commercial establishments. The removal drive is also progressing rapidly in areas around Gandhi Hospital , Sultan Bazaar Road , Kachiguda Junction , and Maheshwari Parameshwari Theatre . Authorities are focusing on curbing activities such as running businesses on footpaths and setting up temporary sheds.
Officials have decided to conduct this ‘special drive’ every Saturday across the city. The primary objective is to ensure that pedestrians can walk safely on footpaths instead of roads. Warnings are being issued to those violating norms by carrying out business activities or constructing illegal sheds.
The GHMC expressed hope that the clean-up drive will not only ease traffic congestion but also significantly improve pedestrian safety in the city.
