Genrobotics Opens Kerala Facility to Expand Into Defence and Space Robotics

Genrobotics, a Kerala-based deep-tech robotics company, has opened a new production facility at KINFRA, Menamkulam, near Thumba, marking a major expansion of its manufacturing and research capabilities into defence, aerospace and space technologies.

The facility was inaugurated by APM Mohammed Hanish, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries), in the presence of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Chairman Balagopal Chandrashekar and KINFRA Managing Director Santhosh Koshy Thomas.

The new Menamkulam unit will focus on research and development-led production of robotics systems for defence and space applications. The move represents a significant diversification for Genrobotics, which has built its reputation through sanitation and medical robotics.

The company said it has strengthened its aerospace capabilities by adding senior talent from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to its team in recent months. The new facility is expected to support the development of robotic technologies for specialised and high-risk environments where remote operations can help reduce human exposure to danger.

The Menamkulam facility is part of a broader expansion of Genrobotics’ manufacturing infrastructure across Kerala. Its largest production facility in Palakkad is currently under construction and nearing completion. The unit will primarily focus on sanitation and medical technologies. Meanwhile, the company is developing a new headquarters-cum-R&D facility at Chanthavila in Thiruvananthapuram. Once all three facilities become operational, they are expected to add a combined one lakh square feet of infrastructure to Genrobotics’ operations in Kerala.

Vimal Govind, co-founder and CEO of Genrobotics, said the company’s journey has evolved from sanitation robotics to advanced applications in space. He said the expansion reflects the company’s ambition to develop technologies for challenging environments.

Genrobotics said its expansion comes as India seeks to strengthen domestic capabilities in advanced manufacturing, robotics and aerospace technologies, while reducing risks associated with human intervention in hazardous environments.
