General Dwivedi Gets Global Recognition, Third Indian Army Chief in US Hall of Fame
In a significant recognition of India’s rising global military stature, General Upendra Dwivedi , Chief of Army Staff, has been inducted into the International Hall of Fame at the US Army War College in Pennsylvania. This honour places him among an elite group of global military leaders and makes him the third Indian Army Chief to receive the distinction after General V K Singh and General Bikram Singh . The recognition is awarded to distinguished international alumni who have made exceptional contributions to national security and global military cooperation , underscoring India’s growing role in shaping international defence discourse.
The legacy of Indian representation in the Hall of Fame reflects sustained excellence in military leadership. General V K Singh, who later served as India’s External Affairs Minister, was inducted in 2011, while General Bikram Singh, India’s 24th Army Chief, was inducted in 2013 and also honoured with the US Legion of Merit. General Dwivedi’s inclusion continues this select tradition, highlighting India’s strong record of strategic leadership , global outlook , and commitment to international defence collaboration.
An alumnus and distinguished fellow of the War College, General Dwivedi’s induction marks a full-circle moment in his career. During his visit, he engaged with faculty and international officers, delivering insights on leadership , professional military education , and evolving security dynamics . He also participated in panel discussions , reviewed advanced research projects under the Scholars Programme, and interacted with global military professionals, reflecting India’s growing emphasis on intellectual preparedness and modern warfare capabilities.
Earlier in his US visit, the Army Chief travelled to Hawaii, where he was accorded a Guard of Honour at Fort Shafter, headquarters of the United States Army Pacific. He held high-level discussions with General Ronald P. Clark and other senior leaders, focusing on strengthening India–US defence cooperation and advancing a shared vision for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He also undertook an aerial tour of Oahu island, gaining insights into the training ecosystem and multi-domain operational readiness of US forces.
The visit follows closely after similar engagements by Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh and Admiral Dinesh Tripathi , signalling a steady expansion of military-to-military exchanges between India and the United States. Beyond being an individual honour, General Dwivedi’s induction reflects India’s expanding influence in global defence affairs, its deepening institutional ties with key partners, and its commitment to addressing emerging security challenges in an increasingly dynamic geopolitical landscape.
