Gen Upendra Dwivedi Visits US, Indo Pacific Defence Cooperation in Focus

India and the United States continue to steadily deepen their strategic military partnership , with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi currently on an official visit to the US, reinforcing high level defence engagement between the two nations.

During his visit, India’s Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra hosted Gen Dwivedi in Washington, underscoring the diplomatic importance attached to the Army Chief’s trip. The visit comes shortly after the engagements of the Air Force and Navy chiefs in the US, reflecting a sustained push for tri services coordination and military to military cooperation between India and the United States.

According to the Indian Embassy, the ongoing exchanges are expected to further strengthen India US defence ties , which are described as a cornerstone of the broader global strategic partnership , aimed at ensuring a free, open and prosperous Indo Pacific region .

As part of his engagements, Gen Dwivedi is scheduled to meet senior officials from the US defence establishment on Wednesday, focusing on expanding operational coordination, training cooperation and shared strategic priorities.

Earlier in the visit, the Army Chief was accorded a Guard of Honour at Fort Shafter in Hawaii during his interaction with the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC). He held detailed discussions with General Ronald P Clark , Commanding General of USARPAC, along with other senior military leaders. The talks centred on strengthening defence cooperation and advancing a shared vision for peace and stability in the Indo Pacific region , according to the Indian Army.

Gen Dwivedi also undertook an aerial tour of Oahu Island, where he reviewed the training ecosystem and observed multi domain operational readiness , offering deeper insight into US Army preparedness and joint training frameworks.

The visit highlights the growing convergence between India and the US on defence strategy, with increasing emphasis on interoperability, regional stability, and long term strategic alignment.
