‘Garividi Lakshmi’ Stuns Box Office, Beats ‘Jailer 2’ and ‘Ranabaali’
In a surprising box-office turn during the Dasara festive season, the regional film ‘Garividi Lakshmi’ has outperformed superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ and Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Ranabaali’ in daily collections across North Andhra, demonstrating the growing appeal of culturally rooted stories.
Directed by Gouri Naidu Jammu and produced by People Media Factory, the folk musical biographical drama chronicles the life of Garividi Lakshmi, a traditional Burrakatha artist from North Andhra. Actress Anandhi plays the titular role, supported by VK Naresh, Rag Mayur, Raasi, Ankit Koyya and Sharanya Pradeep. The film's music is composed by Charan Arjun.
Beyond its box-office performance, the film highlights the struggles, achievements and cultural contributions of traditional folk performers. Through Lakshmi's journey, it explores the challenges faced by artists in preserving their identity and sustaining their livelihoods while keeping traditional art forms alive. The narrative also celebrates North Andhra's folk heritage, regional dialect and Burrakatha storytelling tradition, bringing the life of a relatively lesser-known artist to a wider audience.
According to reported trade figures, ‘Garividi Lakshmi’ earned a distributor share of ₹32 lakh on Thursday, October 22, across North Andhra. In comparison, ‘Jailer 2’ collected ₹28 lakh, while ‘Ranabaali’ earned ₹13 lakh in the region.
The cumulative distributor shares of ‘Jailer 2’ and ‘Ranabaali’ stood at ₹5.3 crore over eight days and ₹2.1 crore over seven days, respectively. Meanwhile, ‘Garividi Lakshmi’ accumulated ₹1.7 crore in six days across North Andhra.
Separate trade tracking figures put the film's Thursday gross collections at ₹47.14 lakh, with a reported 75% theatre occupancy, compared with 35.2% for ‘Jailer 2’ and 33% for ‘Ranabaali’. Gross collections and distributor shares are different measures.
The film's performance underlines how strong regional connect and culturally significant storytelling can help smaller productions compete with big-budget releases. With encouraging collections and audience turnout, ‘Garividi Lakshmi’ appears well positioned for a promising theatrical run.
