Gang Posing as I-T Officials Steals Jewellery Worth Rs 2 Crore in Rajasthan
A gang of seven men allegedly posing as Income Tax officials stole gold jewellery worth around Rs 2 crore from a businessman’s residence in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district on Friday, police said. Some suspects have been detained in connection with the robbery.
The incident took place at the house of Anil Maheshwari, a businessman dealing in transport and motor parts, in Mahesh Vihar Colony near Dilwara Bypass, under the Nasirabad Sadar police station limits.
According to police, five members of the gang entered the house claiming to be Income Tax officials. At the time, Maheshwari, his brother and father were at their office, while women members of the family, his son Kartik and a domestic help were present at the residence.
The accused allegedly searched the rooms and took four pairs of gold bangles, a pair of gold bracelets, a gold necklace and three mobile phones from a locker, police said. The entire operation lasted around 13 minutes.
As the men were leaving, Kartik followed them to their vehicle and demanded a seizure receipt, asking them to provide proof that they were government officials. However, the accused allegedly sped away without producing any document. Station House Officer Radheshyam Chaudhary said police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and examined CCTV footage from the area.
The footage reportedly showed the suspects arriving in a vehicle and entering the house. Police subsequently deployed roadblocks in the area and detained some suspects in connection with the case. Investigators are working to establish the identities of all those involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the robbery.
Police have launched a further investigation into the incident. No additional details regarding the detained suspects or recovery of the stolen jewellery were immediately available.
The incident highlights the risk of criminals impersonating government officials to gain access to homes and valuables. Police are continuing their probe into the alleged robbery and the gang’s movements.
