The saga of George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” universe is set to continue expanding, with HBO(Home Box Office) officially ordering new seasons of two of its highly anticipated spin-off series: House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

HBO Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys made the announcement during the network’s press presentation in New York on Thursday, confirming that fans of the fantasy epic can look forward to years of new content exploring the intricate world of Westeros.

The third season of House of the Dragon is scheduled for a summer 2026 release. The series, based on Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, chronicles the infamous Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, it explores the rise and fall of House Targaryen at the height of its power. The show features an ensemble cast including Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, and Steve Toussaint, with Ryan Condal serving as showrunner and Martin as co-creator. HBO has also greenlit a fourth season, which is expected to premiere in 2028.

Meanwhile, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a half-hour drama, has been renewed for a second season even before its series debut on January 18, 2026. The second season is slated for 2027. Adapted from Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight, the show follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and his young squire, Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell. The series also stars Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, and Sam Spruell in key roles. Written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker, the show promises to explore the underdog story of Dunk and Egg while enriching the lore of Westeros.

Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Executive Vice President of Programming and Head of Drama Series and Films, emphasized that the renewals reflect the enduring popularity of Martin’s universe. “We are thrilled to deliver new seasons of these two series over the next three years for the legion of Game of Thrones fans,” Orsi said. “Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showcase just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s world continues to be. In January, audiences will be inspired by the tale of Dunk and Egg, and this summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite excitement with its return.”

With these announcements, HBO is set to keep the intrigue, battles, and political intrigue of Westeros alive for years to come, promising fans more dragons, knightly quests, and epic storytelling from one of fantasy’s most beloved universes.
