G. Sai Prasad Takes Charge as Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary

Senior IAS officer G. Sai Prasad took charge as the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, succeeding K. Vijayanand , who recently retired. The handover ceremony was held at the state secretariat , where Sai Prasad formally assumed the state’s top administrative responsibilities.

Before officially taking office, Sai Prasad received blessings from priests at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and the Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada . Following traditional rituals and prayers, he began his tenure at 11:33 AM. IAS officers and secretariat staff extended a warm welcome to the new Chief Secretary.

Administrative Journey from Assistant Collector to Chief Secretary

A 1991-batch IAS officer, Sai Prasad completed his ENTECH training while still a student and was selected for the civil services. He began his administrative career in 1992 as Assistant Collector in Warangal in the then unified Andhra Pradesh. Over the years, he served as Paduru Assistant Collector , Guntur Municipal Commissioner , and Kadapa Joint Collector , before taking on the role of Collector of Kurnool and Chittoor districts , gaining extensive field-level governance experience.

Expertise in Key Departments

Sai Prasad has played a pivotal role in major administrative reforms, particularly in the energy sector , serving as CMD of APTRANSCO and heading the power distribution companies APEPDCL and APCPDCL . Between 2011 and 2014, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Government of India. Subsequently, he held crucial responsibilities in the Chief Minister’s Office from 2014 to 2019. Recently, he served as CCLA and Special Chief Secretary of Water Resources , before taking the state’s highest bureaucratic post.

On the occasion, senior officials, including special chief secretaries, chief secretaries, departmental heads, and representatives from employee associations, extended floral tributes and congratulations.
