
From waste to watts: GAIL’s bio-CNG plant set for Bengaluru
Bengaluru is set to take a significant step toward sustainable energy as the Karnataka Cabinet has approved allotting 18 acres of land at Haralakunte village, Begur Hobli, Bengaluru South Taluk, to GAIL (India) Limited for setting up a bio-CNG plant. The proposed facility will initially process 300 metric tonnes of organic waste per day, with plans to expand to 500 metric tonnes, converting municipal and organic waste into clean, green energy. This initiative is not only a bold move toward renewable energy but also a major stride in tackling the city’s growing waste management challenges.
The project will be implemented with strict coordination between the Revenue Department and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited, ensuring accurate land surveys and proper handover.
